I loved this book. It was also the first hard copy I have bought in a long time. (On a side note, I spent the extra $5 to see if Amazon same day delivery would really work, and it did, on a Saturday no less). Anyway, I loved the idea of the same spot and what happened there throughout time (and what will happen there in the future). I was actually reluctant to buy this book at first, because I was worried it would make me think of my own small space in time, but I got over that and really enjoyed the book. It is in comic style, (the writer is a comic style writer) but even if that is not your style it is does not matter. Seeing the different eras, even on one page, really makes you think, even about where you sit at the moment. It is an easy read (it’s 95% pictures really). and highly enjoyable.

I saw a review on Amazon where the reviewer said that if this book didn’t give you whiplash, you weren’t reading the same book. I completely agree. I absolutely loved the beginning of the book (and everywhere else) where John meets Cornelius and they interact and have conversations. I also enjoyed the scene in the Amethyst Hotel/Inn. But I didn’t enjoy the rest of the book, especially the next to last chapter.
Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President by Candice Millard

I wanted to read a book about a President I knew nothing about, and I was fortunate enough to pick this one. The side stories about the Alexander Graham Bell and Mr. Guiteau the “Assassin” were quite riveting. But what I found quite interesting, was that President Garfield’s recovery was greatly hampered by the fact doctors did not wash their hands before surgery or sticking their hands inside patients bodies. Fascinating to to read how different things were, not even that long ago. And in 1880, the Washington Monument was only half done, and during the Presidential Inauguration, pigs and cows grazed in front of the Monument. If you like presidential history, I would say you should read this book.
