The Lake of Lost Girls by Katherine Greene
4.5
“And it was in the way that he loved me—a superficial kind of affection—never the deep, abiding tenderness I longed for from my father. In some ways, it felt like he was too scared to love me fully in case something happened to me, too. Or at least that’s what I told myself.”

Wow wow wow. I know I’m late to the game but thank you @NetGalley and @CrookedLaneBooks for this copy of #TheLakeOfLostGirls
I can’t remember the last time I’ve read a book that had me guessing right to the bitter end!
Lindsey’s sister Jessica went missing of their driveway over twenty years ago. She never knew what happened. But a new podcast focusing on her disappearance and the disappearance of three local college girls and then discovery of bones by a local lake has made Lindsey crave the answers of what happened to her sister.

We Carry Their Bones: The Search for Justice at the Dozier School for Boys by Erin Kimmerle
3.0
“On a tour of an old plantation, one county official told me that Blacks only had it bad after the war. “The Civil War?” I asked, astonished. He corrected me: “The War of Northern Aggression.” That was when it fell apart and they became impoverished, he said, without white caretakers.”

narrated by Janina Edwards
🧡🧡🧡
First, I want to acknowledge the narrator. Who did a wonderful on this book and these hard topics.
But with that being said, I wanted more, I felt like some places were more for filler than for actual content about the topic at hand. I just finished and felt like it was missing something. But this book has made me want to look into this school as I have never heard of it until reading this.

Reader Beware: A Fear Street Appreciation Anthology

This nostalgic ode to Stine and Fear Street has something for everyone. There wasn’t a single story in this anthology that I didn’t enjoy and that’s saying something because anthologies are not usually my cup of tea.
I bought the book for the cover and the promise of nostalgia and these authors delivered in the best way.

This was a PAGE TURNER. The POVs, the story, the thrills.
A silent serial killer is put to death but not before uttering some chilling last words. This puts in motion a string of events that lead you down a path where the answers are rooted in the path and for our FMC, in her hometown she left many years ago.
She has to return not only to find answers but rescue her daughter.
My fave book by JH Markert to date.

A Taste for Poison: Eleven Deadly Molecules and the Killers Who Used Them by Neil Bradbury

“Rather than throw the white arsenic away, it was realised that money could be made by selling the substance as a poison to get rid of all kinds of vermin, including cockroaches, rats, stray animals - as well as relatives and secret lovers.”

First of all. What a great start to trying to dive back into an audiobook. I loved the science and the stories behind these posions PLUS some true crime sprinkled in.
This brings to light some poisons people don’t think of today (bleach) and others we all know off.
One complaint is he used the term Koolade instead of flavourade , my true crime besties will know what time talking about.
But overall solid book, great narrator. Does this mean my attention to audiobooks is back??

I’ve been trying to keep going. But I am so bored it feels like I’ve been reading for ten years.
