this might just be the most boring cast of characters i’ve ever had to read about, which is insane if you think about the fact that one of them WORKS FOR DEATH

this was textbook dark academia, complete with a group of the most insufferable people you’ve ever met. it’s very much giving if we were villains by ml rio meets magical realism. it had me in its clutches but i was unsatisfied with the ending.

was this just one long los angeles propaganda? LA they will never make me like you.

interesting premise, horribly boring execution. no chemistry at all between any of the characters, and all of them were distinctly unlikable or unbearably boring.

the moment i realized where this was going i understood it and liked it much more, but the last 30% was so crazy i don’t know if i loved it or hated it or something in between. well written and fun, and i definitely enjoyed the resemblance to afterlife of the party!

this was a fun, nostalgic, inclusive take on p&p. i enjoyed reading it, and im obsessed with jane and brendan becoming myspace official, bc that is exactly the kind of corny shit they’d do.

i mean this was high fantasy. but it was ridiculously sweet and such a unique take! i enjoyed it.

i bought everything this book was trying to sell me aside from the romance. the portrayal of grief and friendship was very honest and very real, and extraordinarily moving. but i just don’t like any of these people and also did not see or believe in the romance. that doesn’t change the fact that this is an exceptional novel, though. i just wish i cared about the romance a little more.

this made me feel so many things i cried on the subway while reading it. just genuinely magical and created such a gorgeous rendition of right place right time + time travel…this is the kind of subtle magic i yearn for. this is what i always dreamt would happen to me 😭
