I liked these short stories. Atmospheric. The endings of some of them didn’t land for me though. 

Great. Got me a little. Kids loved it. 

A nice addition to the series, a travel adventure this time. 

Tim Powers is always a joy, and this may be my favorite time travel story! Good stuff. 

A thoughtful exploration of life, with all the loyalty and betrayal and love and death that comes along with it. I enjoyed reading this. 

The introduction and conclusion are great. The chapters for each of the days and seasons of the church calendar are to the point, pithy, with helpful guides for reading and singing. A useful little book to keep on hand as your family moves through the life of Christ reflected in the calendar year. 

The wine dark sea. 

Butcher does a good job weaving story lines together, keeping the main plot of each book up front, and yet telling a bigger story that always lurks in the background. This one was entertaining. 

An instructive read, and a lesson in having child-like faith. Good stuff. 

I read the first short story in this collection about twenty years ago and I have never gotten it out of my head. I finally read the whole collection and now I will be haunted by Carver’s tales for the rest of my life. I think these are top notch.
