This is not for me. I was a bit hesitant going in because this genre (NA paranormal romance) doesn't often give me books I enjoy. I was ready to suspend my disbelief and annoyance, but life is just too short and my reading life is too short at the moment for me to push through.

The blurb irritated me on the back at the get go because there appears to be a love square which I'm not really down for. Granted I've only read love triangles, not squares, but I'd rather read about two people who have problems to work through together instead of turning to other people.

Upon opening the book I didn't mind Aden's POV for the first pages, but once we were introduced to Mary Ann and Penny, I decided it wasn't worth reading. Mary Ann and Penny have a dumb relationship that is based on being friends forever and nothing more. Penny is the typical outspoken, loud best friend to the quieter MC Mary Ann (equally MC with Aden).

Aden has way too deep feelings for Mary Ann then he should/would for someone he has just met and Mary Ann the same. But also they both want to run away from each other but Mary Ann also wants to hug him?? Aden asks for her number, but she declines and then leaves and her thoughts wonder if she's just made the BIGGEST mistake in her life. God, so dramatic. I was willing to push through after this point, but then Penny gives Mary Ann's number to this STRANGER after her best friend just said NO when he asked. WTF? And then also gives her number incase Aden decides he wants someone more "available". Ugh - NO. This is when I decided life is too short and I don't need to be reading something I wasn't looking forward to and also not enjoying.

Great introduction for someone (like me!) who doesn't know much about countries and continents. Also a good introduction to Non Fiction, not too difficult to read. I definitely notice the difference between concentrating on fiction vs non, but I was able to get through this book easily. Lots of great information and a launching point for other topics to read about.

Great book, doesn't suffer 2nd book syndrome at all. Definitely slow paced, slice of life, kind of a plot, but I really enjoyed it. The love of this book is found in the small moments that make you stop and think. Fitz is a great person, but also always learning. Robin Hobb always cranks up the tension in her endings and I cannot wait to see what the third in this trilogy brings us.

This was a re-read after many years and it was very easy to get through. I wasn't devouring it like I thought I would, but Watson has a very easy writing style. This book does have a slow burn/enemies to lovers romance, but go into it for the development of the main character as that is the heart of the story. She is recovering from trauma and is learning to trust again. This character development is set against a dropback of protecting Alba (Scotland) from being invaded by the Romans. A fair bit of spiritual content, but nothing in your face.

Nothing wrong with the book itself, interesting content, however I'm such a beginner on non fiction and it was difficult to still enjoy this whilst having to Google words each sentence. I hope to try again one day!

Interesting edition, without a super clear plot. Felt more episodic with a lot of loose ends tied up, but also some quick plot lines introduced and then closed. The romance didn't work out how I hoped, but it's left me very curious about the next book, whether anything will change. This helped me understand why I like Sookie so much.

What a surprise of an ending. The beginning is slow. I wonder if the Rebel Queen hadn't of been mentioned in the blurb if this would have added more tension earlier on. However I don't know what else to have included to make the blurb standout. I read this slowly and wouldn't liked to have been forced to read it quicker for a readathon or some other goal. However the final 100 pages were fantastic. So many twists and turns and that LAST PAGE PACKED A PUNCH. I cannot WAIT for the next book, thank heavens it's going a month and a half until it comes out.

I jumped forward past page 58 but this isn't for me. I'm past the stage in my writing journey where I need to read stuff about ideas. I was hoping to get some good specific suspense writing tips but it's just a writing book in general and most of the advice isn't tangible.

I'm bored. I really wanted to like this because it was a gift and the cover is gorgeous, but I do not care.
