I had some conflicting feeling about this book. One thing I will say is that is it beautifully written. Written with a visceral literary voice, at least more so than I am used to in the books I tend to read. On a strictly personal note, there is a lot of character drama. Discussion of strained friendships and romantic relationships. That sort of content just hits me a bit more than some people, which made it an uneasy read. My main criticism is that it was probably too short. It was written as a novella, but I think the middle part of the book, the second act of the three act structure, need to be longer to draw out more of the horror, and more of the conflict set up in the first act. Overall, it was good, and I will definitely read more from the Cassandra Khaw.
