We Will Not Cancel Us: And Other Dreams of Transformative Justice by adrienne maree brown

The questions posed got me thinking through the ways I engage in community and with myself in ways that are not helpful, & how to reframe my engagement from now on. And Steven Universe was included in the Resources section, pretty dope. Both this book & that show have provided tender, gentle spaces to think about what real accountability can look like. I started reading this book as I was trying to navigate toxic organizing spaces in my local neighborhood, and it provided some helpful ways to begin thinking about transformative justice…

We love the wlw representation of this series! The two main characters are so great and it was fun following along with them, I am kind of sad I finished this lol. So much wonderfully queer representation in the whole book, and solid world-building as usual. Would love to hear more about Queen Junn / see her explored more, something extremely interesting about her is revealed in the back half of this that I was very curious to learn more about. She also just seems to be a very liberated character which will be powerful for younger readers. Def Recommend!
Circe by Madeline Miller

Really enjoyed this one. Not usually into what I perceive to be mythology retellings and I really loved Circe. Writing is so beautiful in this and I love how flawed Circe is and the journey we get to take with her throughout her infinite life. I had dismissively thought “what on earth am I gunna find relatable about a Greek enchantress” before finally deciding to read this book, and she became so human through Millers storytelling. A good friend recommended this to me and I’m so glad I listened to them! Will probably revisit some passages again next year because the writing is just so lovely.
