The Substance (2024) featuring daenerys targaryen and our final boss is some random ass npc.

The setting and the romance subplot was decent. But why the fuck is THAT the main antagonist. We don't see them throughout the book they just appeared outta nowhere😭

I get the main idea yes revenge is not for the WEAKπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Lovely girl from @aminasnotokay comment section I am forever indebt to you this year for recommending me this masterpiece I Said a man who YEARNS and you GAVE. 😭😭😭😭😭

MY first books of the year streak always do not miss for some reason Dec-Jan I always get the 5 stars and then the rest of the year is shit.

I love a lot of things. THE MAP. Omg it is so detailed compared to other book maps this one looks like an actual map. It even has the Prison map. I loved that feature. I cried twice.

This is similar to living in a concentration camp. And it gives a lot of representation in SA, forced labor, and manslaughter. What I hate is that the author dedicated this book to Sarah J Maas which is an open zionist. Like is that a joke? Dedicating a book that's main action is to stop oppression to a zionist? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

DISCLAIMER: I didn't read this shit I only, emphasis on ONLY, read the part where there is Jude and Cardan because I'm fucking emotionally starved spiritually starved I AM DESPERATE for little crumbs of the jude and cardan. DESPERATE. I've read the novella but I need more, MORE. MOOOOREEEEE

I read the ending though, and Holly Black knows how to write them nostalgically gut wrenching love it but to me I'm hard-wired to think Oak is still a child πŸ’€

The last 2 chapters are my problem again. That's the only argument that I have. It's still pretty good, I cried thrice. The plot and the politics, absolutely nailed it. Didn't predict shit other than the ending.

β€œOr maybe you put all of this behind you and come find me. Make a life for yourself somewhere that isn’t burdened by politics and violence. Move on with someone who will put you first.”

And as illogical as it was, what Sarhina described was not what she wanted. It was not who she was

Lara went through a ton of shit throughout both books and I honestly pity her. Lara's whole timeline was all traumatic events and the one time she found peace was with Aren. Thus explains why she was uncomfortable choosing Sarina's ideas and kept chasing Arenβ€”who is now in risk of brain aneurysm from the amount of stress.

I'm gonna pretend those last 2 chapters didn't exist because it's Christmas and I am not gonna fucking crashout at Christmas

Also I am so glad they changed the book covers cause the previous ones were physically preventing me from reading this

I liked the plot but the writing for this was mehh... I guess I expected too much cause I love Danielle's recent works. But it's not at all boring. It's average.

For the starter half of the book it is dumped with a mouthful of information of the world building. I was like when will the story start because it explained the world like it was a memoir. When I got to the exact 50% of the book it was all definitely worthwhile. That plot twist edged me in my seat (sorry)

4.45 in goodreads....what an absolute joke. This was the second biggest let down of my life, second to colleen hoovers existence.

The plot was dragging too much. The writing is shit. The dude on the cover looks like somebody ejected on his eye. If you search up keyword "fuck" theres fuck in every sentence. I found this originally on goodreads but later found out it was trending in booktok. I liked booktok back before the smut addicts took over. Don't get me wrong, I've been decieved a couple times. But I'm not a porn addict

I don't know if it's my taste that's changed or booktok's actually just shitty now.

"Needy little bitch in heat."

Ew? πŸ’€πŸ’€

Where the hell is the slow burn part. From the moment they met they were already insufferably spiritually fucking each other. Absolutely disgusting musty lust. There's already plenty of lusty men in my life. I don't need to be imagining one with shit writing. Ugh
