I cannot recommend this book enough. LaValle writes a fictionalized fantasy within the realms of very real American history. Somehow he balances these aspects with a dark, yet ultimately hopeful tone.

A mysterious read that is more like a stream of consciousness dream than anything else. Go in with an open mind.
