Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond
informative
reflective
slow-paced
3.5
The writing is quire hand-wavey in many places, loads of guesswork, and it doesn't always feel like it's on solid ground. For all that historical societal sections, there's almost no concrete information, but the book is still making inferences from those guesses.
Some of the parts are quite repetitive, as if it was written over a longerperiod of time and not cross-checked, or that the writer is trying to drive home some side-point.
Time has passed since, and not sure how much the world has changed (and fingers-crossed improved) since then. This book is good to give a bit of a creeps for people, and start to ask the right questions, hopefully, about their environment. However on its own (as opposed to a jumping-off point) it feels shallow.
