I really wanted to like this but maybe it was perhaps I listened to the audiobook and not read the actual cover but I was just not a fan of this. I told my friend I was reading this and even she said that it was not good after reading it a while back. I'm sad that this didn't go as well. This was also my first audiobook so I'm sad it wasn't a success.

I’m honestly very easy going when it comes to smutty reads but through reading this my thought was “ what the actual fuck am I reading?” Not even sure I enjoyed it

First thriller/horror story of October 2020 and I dnf'ed it. To be honest, I was really hoping that the pick up of the situation would make it more interesting but I nearly fell asleep while reading it. I was just bored. With how slow it went, I was hoping that it would start to pick up and become more intriguing to read, but, it seemed to go even slower. Things were starting to happen but not enough for me to enjoy it.

I do wish that I did enjoy this and maybe in the future I'll pick it back up, but as of right now it was a little boring for me and I dnf'ed it.

My blog tour blog review is up on my blog

Here is my blog review! Below is a preview to my review:

❀❀❀❀

With her wedding on hold and a dead whale on the beach, Evangeline "Evie" is now worried about her fiancé who is stuck at sea. Now, Evie flashes through her life and her absent parents as she remembers her upbringing and the lack of parents, dealing with abandonment, betrayal, being surrounded by alcohol, drugs, and many things that haunt her presence as she remembers her past.

Being surrounded by the ocean, she might have been raised by her negligent father, but she had to parent herself, grow up alone, and realize life alone while her parents left her, alone.

Living Inside Raindrops, tells the story of Jimmy, who grew up during World War I. We are taken back and forth between the past and present of his life.

I did not finish Living Inside Raindrops, as this book didn't hold my attention. The writing felt like it was a tv/movie to book adaptation (not book to movie adaptation). Luke Butler's writing style is very particular which is not the point I will be making for this review. The topic of WWI is one that interests me which is why I requested this on NetGalley. However, when I came to pick this up, I felt bored. This was something that I felt like I had to push myself to read. The writing felt like I was reading a TV show rather than watching a TV show.

Reading this didn't paint a picture in my head like it did other books. I felt the plot rather boring and found that the way the settings of the books, which usually is painted in my head, came out blank. I was merely reading words on a page that I had to push myself to read.

From the start of Living Inside Raindrops, I wanted the story to intrigue me, to make me want to flip to the next page. Instead, I couldn't find that pull that a book usually has, the way a plot can put me into the mood, especially when it comes to historical fiction books. This book felt like I was being told the story rather than shown the life that Jimmy lived. I was not finding anything beautiful that truly hit me while reading this, nothing that made me think, "Wow that was worded excellently". I could not find a part where I could picture the sorrow or the life that Jimmy had in my mind.

Living Inside Raindrops is a book that I wish that I was able to appreciate more but sadly found that this was a book that I think needed to show a lot more rather than tell. The writing could have improved to make a World War I book read like we were there, but, Living Inside Raindrops did not do it.

Plunder: A Brett Carson Thriller by Keith Wilson

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When we first read Plunder, Dr. Brett Carson has just come off the plane from helping a young boy gain his vision back from a disease. The book was something that I had originally been very interested in, which is one of the reasons why I requested it on NetGalley, however, as we got deeper into the book, I found it not surprising while reading it, finding some parts rather... Predictable.

I did not finish Plunder, finding many things lacking and stopping at 64% after finding this lacking a few things that had originally made me interested. The plot in the beginning with this disease that has surfaced was quite interesting but as we continued on, it felt boring and just something that I started to lose interest in.

While this is an ARC and I don't expect final formatting to be entirely accurate, there were some grammatical areas like when they were speaking Spanish that seemed like something that should be a focus on especially if it is not your first language. This was shown clear when there were parts where "girl" which is usually "Niña" in Spanish, was translated as "Niño" which is "boy" in Spanish. Such simple words should have been correct from the start. And while my Spanish is not strong, I do know the basics enough see mistakes throughout the book. I was willing to overlook this fact if it had happened at least twice, but it just started to become frequent and I could not move past the numerous mistakes.

Overall, I had high hopes for this. Reading this during COVID-19, I thought it would be interesting to pick something like this up. It saddens me that this did not peak my interest and that I had to stop this book.

The Hollow Boy by Jonathan Stroud

4.0

There are so many things I want to say about The Hollow Boy and honestly, all I can say is that this book is really good. I haven't read a book as intense as this and I honestly don't know what to say about it. I don't have the fourth and fifth book so I'm desperately waiting for my dad to bring it home so I can read it. For a more better review, check out my blog below!
