Emperor of Wrath by Jagger Cole

Oh my god Mr. Cole. First off, what the hell did you put in this? Crack?? Second of all, I would like to formally apologize for never reading you before because I truly thought there was no way I could read a women written by a man. And while that is still the case in 99.9% of the time, you are the one exception. Kenzo is a perfect dirty talking psycho and Annika will not take ANNNYYYYYY shit and they are such soul mates. Now, I just wish their love realization was drawn out a little more. It was like one page she was still not liking him and then BOOM the next page she loves him? It felt a little weird. Otherwise *chef kiss* beautiful.
This is also the first time I’m seeing a mafia book that’s not coda nostra or bratva. Like the yakuza in rl is one of the oldest mafia originations in the world and also one of the most intense. It’s just so refreshing to see something so different.

I hate that I called every “twist and turn” in this lol. Darby is such a hard character to like she just makes so bad decisions, which she’s practically a kid in a shitty situation so I get making a few but Lordy maybe some common sense? But really nothing takes the wind out of a book by calling everything that happens.

I really did like how dark this was, but the motorcycle club part was kinda weird to me? In the book it’s really mentioned or it’s not really a main focus for the first bit of the story, not like now synopsis of the book says it is. I wish it was more focused on Kain and Lilith and less on that. I wanted more about them. She definitely forgave him and got over the stalking, kidnapping, and killing quickly. Which is totally fine but with the second half being all about the club it was just weird to me. It’s not even heavily focused on until towards the end. It feels just a little slapped together with dark and motorcycle club. If you want both of them, I just wanted the two to work more seamlessly.

I really liked the premise of this but I have a feeling that the other books will just kinda be a copy and paste of the same thing. I normally okay with the surprise pregnancy trope but these two didn’t even talk to each other. We were 65% into the book and they were still have sex during arguments as a way to get over them. Like ??? And when she started throwing up I just rolled my eyes.

The first bit of this was pretty wordy but once you get past like 35% it just takes off.

This was kinda mid. He was kinda crazy and I loved it but like they didn’t talk to each other at all. How can you love someone when you don’t freaking know them huh??? It just didn’t feel all that real. But tbh it is 400 pages of insta love so I don’t know what was I expecting but it gets the job done if you know what I mean.

These two really put you through the wringer lol. This is a roller coaster of emotions where you think everything will be okay then BAM it’s not. This is a long one and it does feel a little toooo long. This coulda been like a 150 pages less and it felt like it kinda dragged and dragged and I wished we came to some resolution a little faster, we were kinda repeating ourselves over and over. And why are we trying to pain huckslees dad as a nice guy when his wife treats his stepson like shit and he’s like “yeah that’s fine” I’m sorry what?

Such a hook from the start. Not even two chapters In he’s killed for him like ???? He’s already so so so in love. I will say like the second half of this book maybe didn’t need to happen? It felt a little slapped together. Like “how can I just keep inflicting pain?” It didn’t really further the story or add to it. It was trying to hurt just to hurt and I’m not a huge fan of that. It would have been amazing otherwise
