this took me a while to finish because i found myself getting caught up in the details/relationships/etc. could the character page have been a family tree instead? sure. but eventually i realized that reading this book is like hearing different versions of the same stories by different family members. can be easy to fall into the logistics trap with this one, but i got the hang of it towards the end. loved the gay stuff especially.

what a goopy gloppy experience! zhang addresses systemic issues like racism, colonialism, and white supremacy through sexual taboo, physical sensations, and lots and lots of Bodily Fluid Imagery. this book's spirit is clear, visceral, necessary, and oh so sticky. warning: lots of use of the word CUNT. love that for her!
