best book in the series. honestly worth pushing through the other books for this one. mist is cool, i like her. jade is cool as well. i think riley and tristan would have been a fun couple. both sarcastic, dry humoured, use jokes as a coping mechanism. maybe they’d enable each other’s bad coping mechanisms but i can’t fault that i. mean me and my friends do that. but i think tristan and riley would have been great as a couple. also jade if you’re looking for a girlfriend my address is
redacted

edit: i looked up the ages of the characters and finding out that riley is a THIRTY SIX YEAR OLD MAN makes the whole riley/ember/garrett love triangle fucking weird.  ember and garrett are like the same age right. like they’re seventeen. riley is pulling a jacob with this shit sorry it was so unnecessary and nasty and him being so possessive over a seventeen year old. she’s more than half his age. i don’t care that they’re dragons and their lifespans are way different to humans. that’s just nasty bruh. anyway bc i’m so disgusted by that i put my rating down from 4.75 to 4 and i think we should not have any more relationships between adult men and teenage girls be portrayed as ‘normal’ or at least not questioned by anyone within the story. like if i was ember’s friend i’d be like. calling the fucking police on riley. fuckin weirdo

riley is a male manipulator, dante sucks, i have mixed feelings abt ember i mean she’s kind of annoying but at the same time a lot of her feelings are justified but also she’s impulsive and reckless and i hope she gets some actual character development. garrett is too good for ember i love him so much don’t you worry garrett i’m here for you baby xxx you don’t need ember she’s too thirsty for that dragon d

oh btw i listened to the audiobook and can i just say that the british accents were not good but specifically when it was ember’s narrator. like it wasn’t a specific british accent it was like a bit of estuary, a bit of midlands, a bit of south london, a lil sprinkle of received pronunciation. also british people don’t actually say “mate” and “bloody” in every sentence. more likely we’ll just straight up swear but ig im nitpicking

fun and easy read, the story is really unlike other books i’ve read. plus i love dragons. maybe that makes me a bit biased but i genuinely enjoyed the story, it was interesting & easy to follow which is what i needed. it wasn’t super predictable, to me it was more like i knew what was coming but, like ember (specifically) i hoped that something else would happen

i dont support jk rowling & my copies of the series are like over 10 years old atp but idk i needed something familiar and easy and that didn’t require me to think too hard and it was just there.

rereading this now as a 19 year old was a lot different than reading it as a 10 year old. i get it’s a kids book but i swear when there’s any speech it gets so repetitive because she constantly uses “said,” sometimes with an adverb and sometimes without. like to the point where said didn’t even look or sound like a real word to me.

anyway there’s a lot of things i don’t like in this book, hermione’s internalised misogyny and her i’m not like other girls attitude, but also how random ass people were sending hate mail to a literal fourteen year old like ma’am you are a pensioner buying magazines for knitting patterns i hardly think you have a chance with some famous teenage boy. you’ll miss a stitch if you keep this up

also victor krum you are seventeen . dumblebee you’re out of your mind letting a fourteen year old compete in the tournament. mcgonagall should’ve been headmistress frfr. cedric my beloved, bill and charlie my beloveds, fred and george my beloveds, sirius my beloved, neville my beloved. harry… is a bit of an idiot and he needs therapy

zoya. my beloved. my darling. i know you’d rip me to shreds with insults if you were real but that’s okay, you’re totally justified. anything you criticise me for is entirely my fault and i would consider your insults a blessing. i lov you

this was so good omfg it left me speechless. there were a few twists that caught me off guard but they also made sense, they weren’t thrown in purely to shock the reader. upon rereading this book i imagine i’d notice the clues i missed.

yes i first read this when i was sixteen and i immediately felt motherly instincts towards the crows despite them being older than me and now three years later i still feel that motherly instinct like sweeties let me make you some hot cocoa with marshmallows i know there’s only like a 2 year age difference now but i don’t care i feel so protective over people who don’t even exist
