An incident on the job leaves firefighter Julian temporarily injured and needing daily help. Feeling partially responsible and intrigued by the stoic man, fellow firefighter Isaiah steps in to aid him. As the two start spending more time together they both realise that neither of them match the preconceptions they had of each other. Isaiah breaks down Julian's walls and starts to see the kind man beneath the grumpy introverted exterior. Isaiah is unlike anyone Julian has met before, he's patient and gives him time to organise his thoughts and feelings and express them in his own way.

This book was such a beautiful and emotional ride. Isaiah is such an amazing character, he's truly selfless and so unbelievably supportive to Julian even when Julian pushes him away. Julian is a lot rougher around the edges, he has a lot to work on, fighting his own demons that stem from his childhood and treatment from his father. You could really feel his internal struggle and how hard he was clinging on to doing what he thought was right for his family rather than what was really right for him.

The epilogue filled me with so much joy and it was wonderful to see the characters so openly happy together ❤️
