Poetry isn’t my normal read, but something I appreciate reading from time to time. This collection of poems from a first generation Mexican-American will cycle between punching you in the gut and making you laugh out loud! From poems about assimilation to those dedicated to Vaporub- I loved this collection.

Small Town Monsters is the first book I’ve read from this author, but it won’t be the last! I absolutely LOVED this book. This is a solid, creepy read for the fall season and perfect for fans of cults, exorcisms, and light humor with their horror.
I’m also a big fan of the ‘this town is weird’ trope and this book absolutely delivered on this one! The writing is lightly humorous while also dealing with subjects such as grief, abandonment, and isolation.
The big confrontation wasn’t the most dramatic or intense, but as a fan of cozy horror I think it will work well for many people.
