Ain't I a Woman? by Sojourner Truth
A very insightful collection of speeches from Truth and other African-American women, educators and activists of the 19th century. If anything, I couldn't get past all the religious preaching which often left me exasperated but appreciated Truth speaking out against the injustices of Christianity and its influences on the subjugation of women and people of colour. Other pieces by authors such as (but not limited to) Maria Stewart and Anna Julia Cooper also provided interesting viewpoints and poignant in their delivery.

I read the first book in this series in 2016 and adored it as a teenager. Unfortunately, I never returned to it until now, it was equally as interesting as I remember the first installment being. However, I did notice some things I wasn't fond of namely the fat shaming and the characterisation of Lucy as "not like other girls" because she didn't like dressing "girly" and was only friends with boys. While they were not detrimental to my enjoyment of the book, it was a shame reading about it in a series where the primary audience are impressionable children. This aside, I thought it was a good book that manged to keep stakes and interests high.
