holy shit. what a story. felt both very short (compared to others like ‘the stand’ and ‘it’) but also terribly long and in depth… it really sucks you in and makes you question things, just like the Overlook does i guess ! really loved this anyway and gonna read dr sleep next wooh!!
also i can see a little more why king didn’t like kubrick’s adaptation, especially when jack in many ways was a reflection of king himself in his drinking days… that slow descent into madness from a really genuine guy/father just doesn’t show through as much with nicholson, he’s kinda just like mad to begin with. haha idk i’ll have to watch the film again.
kinda hated all the racial slurs but we just close our eyes and pretend we do not see🫠🫣
the first bit of this had me so intrigued but it felt it fell flat shortly after… just wan kinda annoying and i didn’t really take anything away from it at all - also couldn’t care less for the characters, they were flat and boring. perhaps it was partly cause i hated the narrator of this audio book and would have done better reading it but yeah anyway
lots of greatly written lines and imagery but in some ways reading this felt like skim reading no matter how hard i focused on the words or how slowly i tried to take them in
i feel like this is one king could have probably kept in the drawers, idk the writing and ‘plot’ to me just seemed very offhand (mind the pun💀) and i very much got the feeling nothing was planned out too deeply, just all a bit here and there ya know. as much as i was enraptured reading it, i wouldn’t say it was something i majorly enjoyed, if that’s even the right word to use for a book like this hahaha! i love king and his work and i think he has a godlike talent for writing but i just wouldn’t use this particular work of his as an example for that…

honestly don’t know how i felt about this one. i did enjoy the ending though, it was practically the only part that made sense to me without having to read a chapter summary and explanation afterwards… which i had to do for literally every other chapter hahaha! overall interesting anyway, outdated but also relevant.
probably also didn’t comprehend it as well cause i read the audio book
uGH-mAy-ZING READ !!! This was all i hoped it would be and more. Even though it has inspired me to take a dive into the writing world… like king said, you can’t make a great writer out of a good one… though it is possible… to make a good writer out of a merely competent one - and so i think majority of the information and tips i took in will most likely be applied to my own forms of art that suit me best :) (although i do still hope to improve my skills in writing at least a little). So yes, a realistic, straight-to-the-point, but still empathetic and inspiring read. I’ve learnt SO MUCH! Okay, in honour of Rule 17, i shall ‘Omit Needless words’ and leave this review here :)
yummy, delicious, scrumptious, ate it up and left NO CRUMBS !!! hehehe truly such a magical story and made me so nostalgic with its ties to ‘the twelve dancing princesses’ and magical lands i dreamt of as a child. can’t wait to read cybels secret and more of juliet’s works !!! so much warmth and love in one book🤍🥰
