while I greatly enjoyed reading this, I feel like not much happens. it's beautiful writing about a magical circus full of mysterious wonders! but the character kind of fall flat with everything going on and you never really know exactly what even is going on. the love story doesn't make a ton of sense and the ending was just ... fine I guess. so basically I felt like the plot was just OK but i loved the descriptions and prose. very vivid.

this is some of the most beautiful & horrific writing I've ever read. the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 full stars is the confusing timeline/world building. im still not sure what year it was. but the characters were all really unique and compelling, the internal monologue was engaging, and the body horror and gore was disgusting /pos.

interesting premise destroyed by stiff writing, unbelievable dialogue, and unlikable characters. had a few cool moments & lines I liked, but mostly I was just waiting for it to be over. despite the fast pace and short chapters this book somehow dragged on and on. the birth scene was especially insufferable and that was what the whole book was cumulating for.

I tried to like it but I think you have to be a scientist or mathematician to really get it. it's too complicated and honestly boring at times.

some parts drag but the good stuff is really good. I kinda wish the ending was more tragic. almost everyone else got what was coming for them, or got an upse ting fate they didn't deserve, and I LOVED that. overall a solid book, interesting & well-written, gave me something to do at work.

will add more profound thoughts later.
