Not every short story works, but the ones that do are fantastic. I love the uncomfortable closeness with which July explores the strange, sad, endearing, immoral aspects of human life often ignored in fiction.

A horrifying portrayal of the Wild West, Blood Meridian is graphic, brutal, non sentimental, but at the same time reads mythic and biblical. Mccarthy’s prose is like nothing I’ve ever read, so incredibly vivid and evocative in its descriptions of death and massacre, of the endless lonely and gorgeous landscapes of the Nobel The story, on one hand based largely on true events, is also a philosophical meditation on violence and war. This is largely presented through one of the most terrifying and morbidly fascinating antagonists of all time, Judge Holden. This book is difficult, especially starting it, but please please please keep reading.

An agonizing and beautiful story capturing the nuances and complexities of human love and desire. Baldwin writes so accurately and so piercingly, you will see yourself reflected. This book resonates deeply.
