I loved this sad but satisfying story because of Adunni's courage and spirit. Abi Dare has a beautiful African voice and she makes Adunni seem so real. The thoughts in this little girl's head are profound and so well-written. Every girl needs a louding voice.

Step back in time to Medieval England with Jenny (from today) and an assortment of good and evil characters. This is a unique blend of historical fact and fiction that will have you wanting more.

Yes, there is more. Thankfully, Richard Blackburn [a:Richard Blackburn] has continued the series with 'Rudigor's Revenge' [b:Rudigor's Revenge] and 'The Regiment'[b:The Regiment|4284825|A guide to Canadian shoulder titles, 1939-1985 A collector's and historian's comprehensive guide to the cloth shoulder titles worn by the regiments and corps of the Canadian Army in 1939-1985|Donal J Sexton|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nocover-60x80.jpg|4332378].
If you have trouble finding a copy you can go to and order all three books online.

This will appeal to older children and young adults. Adults reading the books to younger children will enjoy it as much as the kids do. A story for all ages.

This is an award-winning Australian book. It was difficult to get into but by about chapter 5 it moved along nicely. Just enough descriptive narrative and believable dialogue. A strange story that shows Aussie river life and the unusual characters of a small town. I liked the insight into what made the characters tick. It didn't quite have enough resolution for me but I guess I'm too much of a romantic.
