This rating is based entirely on my experience with the book and not how well I think it was executed technically, considering I’m not in the least bit qualified to pass judgement about whether it “worked” as a short story collection, or whether its meta/surrealist elements were “successful,” or whatever.

I just honestly wanted more from the interstitial narrative involving the writer and the devil. That was what made me want to pick the book up to begin with, and it was much less central to the plot than I anticipated, even knowing that this was going to be a collection of short stories.
