You know what, it just wasn’t for me, I tried to get onboard and just float along with the writing and I just couldn’t. I should have finished this book in a day, two tops, but it dragged, slowed and ebbed in a way I found frustrating. There’s some beauty here for sure and I can understand why so many people liked it but unfortunately I just couldn’t.

Everything a good horror book should be, heart racing thrills and pages dripping in atmosphere. The body horror was, intense, for lack of a better word. I loved this book so much and can’t wait to read more from David as he’s clearly got a gift!
No One Is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood

I loved the concept and the style so much, oddly it added this almost dreamy feel to the writing where you could flow along mindlessly and then out of no where an absolute sucker punch to your emotions.
The whole book is filled with both beautiful and hilarious passages with my favourite being “I am I because my little dog knows me” I know it isn’t Patricia’s but the way they use it is devastating and perfect.
Definitely would recommend for anyone looking a shorter read with a lot to say.

If the Scooby gang was really a group of friends who met in a smoking area, should be amazing, probably one of the worst books I’ve read this year, so boring, the characters underdeveloped, I think since they were all so cliched we were supposed to deduce their motives through this alone. It’s bad when I was able to read through 20 pages and not really know what’s happening because I was just that bored and underwhelmed. The length is nice and a beautiful cover, that’s all I can really say on this book.

I loved this collection of stories so much I instantly re read certain ones which really caught my attention (Ginger Rodger’s in particular) the beautiful tapestry of lives and view points on display completely pulled my attention through out. I will admit finding the first story jarring not knowing the time in which this book was published but after that was able to fully immerse myself given this context.
Reeling in the Queers: Tales of Ireland’s LGBTQ Past by Páraic Kerrigan

A highly interesting book which narrative and factual style made it enjoyable to read even if historical books aren’t exactly your go to. I found a certain sense of pride reading this book at all of the hero’s who have come before and the amazing work they have done to help us achieve the cultural climate we have now.

As far as books go, it was grand, the first story was amazing and I felt completely engrossed in both the moral and the writing style. Yet, by the third story I felt the writing to have become somewhat drab and lack lustre. The ideas were great and I just wished there was somewhat of a more poetic nature to some of writings. Worth a read but I feel like I’ll easily forget this one.

A beautiful story about generational trauma, the history we keep inside ourselves, masculinity and what this means to our day to day lives. The use of multiple styles keeps the pace ramped up and almost feels like it propels through the different view points. A really enjoyable quick read.
