I feel like this series is almost there. It's really fun and easy to read, but there's something just outside the mark that makes it an amazing read for me. I wish it were longer because there are elements that could benefit from some fleshing out. Supposedly Book 3 will wrap up the series and I don't see how that's feasible after what occurred in Book 2 without really adding some extra length!

On that note - it was fun to start Book 2 with the alternate POVs of Alistair & Rian during the night of the party from Of Moons and Monsters. The first 5 chapters (approx 20%) offer an interesting slice of life of - what I'll call - the 'other harem' with the men on Earth. Like I mentioned, I wish more time could have been spent with them because the brief taste we get was too much of a tease! Alistair is a trauma-filled cinnamon roll perfectly set up to be care for by Rian & Matthieu, who are equally delightful the more we get to know them. They got 9 of the 24 chapters and it just wasn't enough!

Our main harem with Isla & the Guardians is continuing to grow nicely and, again, I love the element of the language barrier and how they work around it to cement their bonds further. There's much more Briyan (aka Czech) included this go around and it was fun to translate it as I went along. They're all experiencing some element of growth with this new relationship and it's expanding nicely. Again, too much smexy time off-page, but if it's to expand more character & plot development, I won't complain ;)

Weirdly, I didn't find the cliffhanger ending all that dramatic but I guess that's just a matter of taste. I can't stand a cliffhanger that's full of angst and tension but here I felt an element of hope and excitement, so didn't feel as hit over the head, haha. I can't wait to see where Book 3 takes us!

Love. Love. Love. A language barrier has never been more fun to read! A great first book that has me hooked to a new series. A few things could do with some tightening up and I'd have appreciated more than the 2 smexy scenes (the rest are all off page), but this is a great beginning and I'm interested to see where it goes!

Well, this was absolutely delightful and lovely. I’m not usually enamoured with the “quirky girl” trope, but this toed the line well and I really enjoyed Hazel and her ‘Hazel-ness’. I also found this was one of the better friends-to-lovers tropes I’ve read. The relationship that develops between Josh & Hazel seems so genuine and their opposite personalities meshed into great chemistry. And the epilogue?? One of my favourites ♥️

Double Trouble: Two Werewolves for Brian by D.J. Heart

Did not finish book. Stopped at 15%.
Poor representation of a D/s relationship - it’s just straight up D. The werewolves either force or coerce Brian into doing what they want because he’s “theirs” and it’s “fated”. Yeah…big NO from me.

Got to the point where they tell Brian that he’ll no longer be eating or drinking, instead only receiving sustenance by consuming their come & piss, and I’m bolting far far away.

Oh boy am I in love. Blue is an absolutely enchanting character and Levi is a perfectly gooey cinnamon roll. I felt my heart break for both of them throughout the book - there are wonderful elements of a hurt/comfort relationship as they both deal with past traumas and emotional vulnerabilities. I appreciated how much of a slow-burn this was, though I am hoping that book 2 picks up a bit more spice!

This is my first supernatural romance with ghosts/haunted houses and I would recommend it as a good introduction to the genre - it's fairly 'ghost-light' I'd say, at least in the horror elements. I don't know if I could take more than the level that appears in this book, all set against the deliciously spooky York setting.

If you can look past the (IMO) atrociously ugly cover, give this one a go!

While Blue & Levi are adorable, I just did not enjoy this one as much as I did book 1. It's a bit jumbled trying to decide whether to be a bit camp, a bit spooky, and a bit mysterious, but the styles end up competing for space. It's missing that magical spark for me and fell a bit flat.

I really like Lily's writing style. Faking with Benefits was great and this one is no different, but the one thing I think could improve (which appeared in both books) was the level of grovelling leading to the resolution.

Our FMC Daisy
almost dies because of the actions of one of the MMCs, not to mention all the blame she takes on after her recent SA traumas
. And then it's immediately all forgiven?! Pfft. I understand the need for an HEA, but just a little more fleshing out would move this to a 5⭐️ rating for me.

The Belle and the Beard by Kate Canterbary

1st-person narrative is hard to do well, and it just doesn't work here for me. Both characters' internal dialogue were very annoying, repetitive, and dull. I began skimming much too soon and didn't feel the need to care about what happens to either of them.

Also...what kind of grown-ass campaign advisor/political fixer consciously chooses to clean a musty, rotting, poop-filled house in skirts & heels?!? Sooo OTT ridiculous.

HOT. GARBAGE. Seriously!! The best thing about this was the premise and I feel so cheated out of a good story.

The writing is atrocious - juvenile, with really odd sentence structure. I’m assuming that maybe there was an attempt at beastie ESL-speak, but nothing ever touched on that plot-wise, so I can’t be sure. The number of times I became confused about who was speaking or the circumstances of the scene was too frequent for a ~100-page story. Speaking of. Another thing I hate - the story itself ended at 89%…boooo. Don’t bother.

The Librarian's Vampire Assistant by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

I just can’t continue with the MMCs 1st person narration, especially with gems like this:

The young redhead attending to me smiles, but it’s the sort of smile that says she wants to bed me. Little does she know that while I am a handsome man—six feet one, deep brown eyes, and a very charming smile—she can’t help herself. Yes, that myth is actually true. Humans find us irresistible.

Or this:

She can’t be a day over twenty-nine, yet she dresses like a cliché of the crotchety old librarian, almost like a child might for Halloween. Her oval face with delicate features and cupid bow lips is not unattractive by any means, so my curiosity is instantly piqued. Why would a woman intentionally go out in public looking like this?

Or even this!

I dig through her top drawer and— “What is this?” I pull out the book. It appears to be one of those explicit romance novels—if one could dare to call them novels, which implies they are a form of literature. I chuckle.

Anyways…just not my taste.
