If I had to listen to the narrator mispronounce “Pater” one more time I was gonna snap. I also was tired of Shay making the worst decisions in the world and I was also tired of reading about men abusing women.

I love GH — he’s one of my favorite authors — but this one was just okay for me.

My main issues with this were the main character — I know she’s a child but goddamn, was she irritating.

I also did not love the audiobook performance. There were a couple of sections with chanting and then the noises one makes during childbirth that were SO GRATING and hard to listen to.

Not mad I read it, but it was not my favorite of Grady’s books. 3.5 / 5 stars.
