Fun, cosy(ish) Christmas mystery about a mysterious Christmas shop.

I was enjoying this … until I wasn’t. We’ve got a White British writer (whose work I usually enjoy) writing a story about colonialism and slavery. I won’t spoiler the end, didn’t sit right with me.

Jamie and Zoe are fantastic characters. I’d happily read about them sitting around watching Netflix.

For me though, they were bogged down by a plot that didn’t entirely make sense.

Having read other reviews, I’m not sure how accurate the setting in rural India is. But from a story standpoint, this one is wickedly funny and delightfully vengeful.

Big, immature, cis-het White man finds himself in outer space. Somehow, he ends up on a ship. One member of the crew is a ridiculously Hot Woman, who also happens to be incredibly smart and capable of doing anything. Another member of the crew is a plucky genius. There may  or may not be assorted other crew members; all are highly competent and extremely capable.
Naturally, Hot Woman falls hopelessly in love with Mediocre Man. The whole crew (and  everyone else they encounter) immediately start treating him like he’s in charge.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Oh, you have? Weird.
