Absolutely adore these old people who, essentially, just wanna drink wine and solve crimes.

The perfect way to start a new PJO trilogy featuring the original trio. It makes cheeky references to the past books, shows how the characters have grown since the last time we saw them, and has some moments that made me really think and even some that made me tear up.
It’s weird, in a way, to see how grown up Percy and the gang have become. I started reading this (like a lot of people) when I was a 12, exactly the same age as Percy and Annabeth in The Lightning Thief. I grew up alongside these characters, watched them become young adults and fight monsters while I did the same - though my monsters we less mythological and more, like, mortal, mental, and the like. And now, it’s been so long that these characters who I grew up with and looked up to are younger than me. We’re aging differently, and it makes me feel old - but like Percy, I don’t mind (iykyk - trying to be spoiler-free here).
All in all, this was such a good read. It gave me all I could want from a new PJO book, and I can’t wait for the next one!

Ironically, i don’t have the right words to explain just how much i enjoyed this read about the english language. A witty and informative read about language, society, history, the patriarchy, feminism, and how all of these systems interact with one another. I laughed and learned a lot while reading this, and it’s a must read for anyone looking to learn about feminism or language (or, obviously, both!)
