The Slaughter Man by Cassandra Parkin

I'm surprised by the amount of negative reviews this easy to read thriller novel had received because it really wasn't all that bad. Sure it's not great since there were a little more than a few flaws that I disliked but the authors writing style allowed the story to run smoothly and emotionally driven storyline that showcased the reality of grief impressed me greatly. I loved the dynamic between Lucas and Willow, and how he pushed her towards the end. I will notate that I wasn't exactly impressed with the ending which left me with a lot of unanswered questions but despite that, it was an overall decent mystery thriller.

Title: After the Devil Has Won
Author(s): Rick Wood
Character(s):
Cia Rose: 17 years old, Black, Green Eyed
James "Boy" : 11-12 years old
Setting:
Tag(s): Science Fiction
Content Rating: R
POV: Third Person (Heroine)
Smexy Level: Hot
Favorite Quote(s):
― “The devil has departed, And you are not alone.”
Overall Opinion:
This post apocalyptic thriller had me going with Cia on a wild journey in finding the Boy after becoming separated from an attack by one of the hellish monsters that wreak havoc in their everyday lives. It was a fast paced, well written novel that nearly blew me away and it was an impressive introductory to this author for me. Despite being a 300+ page novel, it felt so much shorter than it actually was and I was pleasantly surprised I was able to finish this in one sitting. The plot, character development, the author's ability to betray autism in a realistic light and how the novel concluded won me over. Needless to say I will be keeping a close eye on what the author comes out with next.

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5 Stars)
Title: The Will and the Wilds
Author(s): Charlie N. Holmberg
Character(s):
Enna Rydar: 20 years old, Brunette, Blue Eyed
Maekallus: Red, Yellow Eyed
Setting:
Tag(s): Romance, Fantasy, Supernatural
Content Rating: PG
POV: First Person (Heroine)
Smexy Level: Subtle
Favorite Quote(s):
― "Beware the narvals, formed from the spilled blood of bastards. They feed upon souls, and will steal one with a willing kiss."
― "Little mortal, you’ve just half a soul left. Be careful how you divide it."
― "What is a soul if not an extension of the heart?"
― “I am the afterlife. I was created by death. I am the end. When I perish, I am gone.”
Overall Opinion:
To think that a kiss, a small and brief kiss, could change one's soul and pushed the characters towards a life or death predicament when a sudden bargain is made. The author was able to graced us with a whimsical fantasy novel that she was able to bring to life with her easy going writing style, unique and diverse characters and intriguing plot. From page one, the reader is brought into this fantasy world filled with mortals and mysting, and the stone that alters the lives of Maekallus and Enna forever. Despite how much I adore this read I will notate that I wished the author would have touch more base on the Deep (a supernatural realm so to speak) and the creatures that lurked around Wildwood. That was an element of the story that initially drew me in and I was slightly disappointed she deferred from providing more details in regards to that aspect when it was obvious the romance portion was the main focus of the plot, causing that to be pushed aside. Which wasn't bad mind you but I was left wanting to learn more about the mythical creatures that lurked through the woods, their history and horrid behavior. Nevertheless, it was an enthralling supernatural and fantasy read that ended on a high note (finally an ending I can stand by) in which case I would recommend to just about anyone to pick this up and give it a go. You won't be disappointed.

Marriage for One by Ella Maise

Should've concluded around 300 pages instead of 500 since the end results would've been the same. There wasn't anything in particular that stood out with this read. The typical millionaire marrying the down in the dumps girl struggling to make ends meet before they strike a deal that benefits both parties if they married which is a typical trope that has been used and recycled too many times to count. So to speak, it you read them once, you've read them all and to be completely honest I was surprised to see all the high rated reviews this has received. Don't get me wrong it wasn't completely awful and was an overall decent read but I wouldn't call this a must read, get it while you can 5 star rating.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5 Stars)
Title: Naughty or Nice
Author(s): Lauren K. McKellar
Character(s):
Claire Roberts: Black, Green Eyed
Hamish Christianson: Blue Eyed
Setting:
Tag(s): Romance, Contemporary
Content Rating: R
POV: Alternates between Heroine/Hero
Smexy Level: Warm
Favorite Quote(s):
― "There’s so much sexual tension between the two of you, the rest of us go home and have cold showers."
― "I want to be with you, Claire. This is me, putting my cards on the table. I’m not all nice. I’m not all perfect. But if you’ll let me, I’ll be all yours."
Overall Opinion:
Short and sweet. That probably much sums up this instant love romance between enemies turned lovers work colleagues who duels it out to win a huge work promotion. Things escalated pretty quickly and far too much drama happened between the span of seventy pages that I didn't care much about about the characters nor story. This novel would be ideal for anyone looking for something fast and easy.
