A really well written story of the first millennium of Rome, from founding to the 14 emperors. I started this book with very little knowledge of the timeline of Rome from city to republic to empire and have finished it with a greater appreciation for the diversity of the politics and culture of the people. Despite the level of detail at times, I found it accessible and would recommend it to anyone interested in the Roman Empire.
