Queen of Thieves: A Dark Mafia Romance by Nikki Black
1.0
I finished this book because I’m a completionist, not because it was good. So many missing details and plot points that made no sense. If the Author wanted us to hate her first husband, she failed to villify him. Most of what the first husband did was justified and she just lacked loyalty. & where did the “Queen of Thieves” come from, there was no connection in this story. Also how is Vlad the king of this criminal empire but can’t catch a farmer from Kansas that some how knows how to target the mafia IN RUSSIA?
She doesn’t ’t miss her parents?
What about the throne being challenged?
Cocaine?? Really?

All Downhill After Chapter 4
The Author has my wheels turning, so I’m back at it with my review. There were some humorous parts throughout the book and I was intrigued with the potential romance until Chapter 5. I went into this book expecting a HEA but I got something else.
Charlie came into Taylor’s house day one taking care of THREE kids, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping without a second thought and the family thinks she hung the moon. Taylor seems great at the beginning but after Chapter 4 sugar turns to

Ms. Author, wtf is this?? This isn’t a dark Romance, It’s unhinged, psychotic, criminally insane. Simone was a sex worker which is fine until it’s not consensual— the abuse she had to endure at the hands of two men. Was Matías suppose to be the prize? An emotional stunted psycho who needed therapy long ago but now he just needs die to go straight to hell. Then after all his physical torture and psychological abuse, the Author had the never to mention “Love”?? I’m trying to figure how the Author wrote this and said “ yeah, that’s it!” & then you killed Jose the only one that treat Simone like a human being—-raggedy af!!
Don’t do this ever again, there is NOTHING romantic about getting your ass beat and R—-ed
This isn’t dub con, this is pure trash. Standards for Mafia Romance for BW are in the bowels of hell and I want y’all to leave us out of your insanity.
Book should be called: I hate black women. SEEK HELP

A Full Love!
I had to sit with this book for few days before I wrote my review. This book was true to its title—Conflicted Hearts, after suffering tragic losses Drue and Siyanna find a love with each other that feels forbidden. At the beginning, it took some time for me to be okay with them falling in love, but when I thought about it—love can be complicated, the people involved in that love choose to uncomplicate things in order to be together.
Reading this book was like watching something play out that you weren’t supposed to see— it felt like a taboo, exciting secret. what I love the most about this book is that it was not a cookie-cutter romance book, the author was not afraid to capture the imperfect elements that shaped the couple’s relationship. & beyond the romance there was the realistic emotions involved when someone loses a spouse like showing how grief is not a linear process so it can just hit anytime, out of the blue. & The struggle to love again and the guilt associated with loving again and it being your the brother In-Law/sister-in-law.
When reading Romance books, I hate finishing a book & feeling robbed because, where was the relationship?? like okay, y’all have some good sex and went out a couple dates…. What about this person is going to make you want to keep them in your space when you get to the age where people start to annoy you?? THIS BOOK got me out of that slump because Kay Shane’s gave us a FULL love story!! The love between Drue and Siyanna was believable and memorable because the author actually explored the making of the relationship/what the love was built on.
Bottom line, I loved this book because it actually gave a developed romance and it wasn’t afraid to be different. I highly recommend this book. As always, I am patiently waiting for the next Kay Shanee book!

For Heaven's sake: A Rosehill City Novel by Sabrea Marie

Loving thoroughly, read this book.
This is a work of art & I need these reviews to reflect it.
This story consumed me. I am always looking at reviewers and readers with the side eye when they have negative things to say about urban novels, because those type of comments feed into the dehumanization of black people that don’t fit the aesthetic society deems acceptable. One of the many aspects that makes this book art is there was no romanticizing the hustle or the struggle. The author gave us the real & did not sugarcoat or speed pass the pain & emotional toll of being incarcerated & rebuilding after being released from prison. It tells of the blooming love between Heaven & Shia, a couple that chooses to meet each other where they were at. It wasn’t all luxury & glamor & I know some people hate to see that, but watching the man that Shia started as shift and build himself into the man that HE chose/wanted to be (even though there were many external forces working against him)—priceless. The goal: Loving thoroughly— read this book.

Kellan, a man of intention, we love to see it.
his energy matches the statement: “If he wanted to, he would”. This couple was sweet I hope to see them again.
