It Didn't Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle by Mark Wolynn

The introduction made me raise my eyebrows several times, but there were some good bits so I thought I’d try to read further. Turns out no, I don’t think I can. At least not right now. It’s just too Freudian and “you need to forgive your parents to heal” isn’t something I can get behind.

A good resolution to the mystery of Zuko and Azula’s mother. Writers did a good job of explaining her absence in a way that makes sense in the Avatar universe. It was, perhaps, “convenient”—but it didn’t feel contrived.

I love the way Claudia Gray writes Leia—and she introduced a number of compelling characters in this story. I saw some of the plot points coming but there were still a handful of surprises.

Rebel Witch: Carve the Craft That's Yours Alone by Kelly-Ann Maddox

informative lighthearted reflective
Rebel Witch is tricky for me to review. It’s a book I’ll keep for reference, so it certainly is useful. It’s also well-organized and straightforward.

I didn’t love the narrator’s tone or the casual pet names in reference to the reader—it felt awkward. I also found the amount of journal prompts a bit overwhelming, so I eventually started skipping them and decided I will return to them when or if I feel like it.

All in all, I do think it’s worth a read.

I thought this was going to be a werewolf romance and it wasn’t, really, but I still enjoyed it.

I’ve already read The Culture Clash which is more helpful and thorough.

I enjoyed this more than I expected. The bait-and-switch near the end really threw me through a loop and I’ll be thinking about it for a long time.
