You're in Good Paws by Maureen Fergus
4.0
You’re In Good Paws is a story about a young boy named Leo who has surgery to get his tonsils out. I really loved how this book took something scary and serious and made it a bit silly by putting Leo into a world of talking animals. Explaining how the surgery would work from intake to discharge. A great book for any child who has to have surgery.
I loved how colourful the illustrations were as well as how simple the explanations were.

Alma and the Beast by Esmé Shapiro
4.0
Alma and the Beast surprised me immediately with its flip flop of characters. Hairy Alma lives in a magical and hairy land while hairless beast Mala lives in our world. Lost in Alma’s world the beast needs help to find her way home. Although initially Alma is afraid of the beast eventually she helps her find her way home and she sees how different their worlds are.
Fun and strange descriptive language and magical illustrations make this book fun to read. Teaching children that our differences are not a bad thing!

Fairy Science by Ashley Spires

Esther is a fairy who questions everything. She believes in science and tried to show her fairy fiends why it is so great.
A cute story encouraging kids to ask questions, do experiments and don’t follow beliefs blindly just because everyone else does. The illustrations were colourful and fun. I loved the sun bean experiment at the end of the book.

A children’s classic. This song is everything about my childhood. Fun. Catchy. Exciting. Skin a marinky dinky dink... it’s pretty hard not to sing along and feel joyful when you do!
I love all of the extra verses and I love the images. I would absolutely buy this for my kids and as gifts to others. I would share this beautiful piece of my childhood with everyone.

Ella May Does It Her Way by Mick Jackson
4.0
Ella May is a spunky little girl who is strong willed and determined. She finds she likes to try new things and be herself. I thought it was great how she stood out from the crowd by being herself and decided to try something new when people started walking backwards like her.
Her mother is very loving and supportive of Ella May and it is fantastic.
The illustrations were colourful and fun. It was great to see so many different people depicted throughout the city.

My Head in the Clouds by Danielle Chaperon

My Head in the Clouds. A book about travelling without leaving home. The main character is funny and flawed with her forgetfulness and I liked how relatable she was as a kid.
The rhyming flowed nicely and it was fun to search each page for the missing items among the beautiful illustrations.

Animals at Night [With Glow-In-The-Dark Poster] by Katy Flint
5.0
I adore everything about this book. The color scheme, the illustrations, the facts and the fact that the book will glow in the dark.
It was nice to see a book about animals that focused on the nocturnal ones. Not often do we see that time of the night depicted throughout an entire book.

King Mouse by Cary Fagan
5.0
King mouse is a sweet little tale about the importance of imagination, inclusion and friendship. This books illustrations are soft and warm and truly beautiful to look at. With all of the bright and bold children’s books that are on the shelves it’s nice to see one with a more subdued color scheme.
This is a calm book I’d love to read to my son at bedtime.
