I feel like a good themed book pairing  would be this + Penance by Eliza Clark. Both are good commentary on our insidious fascination with and exploitation of tragic & gruesome murders as a form of entertainment.

The most devastating part about this story is that it seemed to me that all these people died for nothing. The glory of summiting Everest has been so degraded by capitalism, greed, and commercialization that it’s a meaningless exercise in risk.
