Not sure what to say about this one. But I think it should be read.

The ending falls a little flat, but the queer history interwoven with the relationships depicted, especially of Juan & the Narrator, truly do make up for it in my eyes. A very beautiful and unique read.

A must-read for those born or living in Texas, especially San Antonio, as well as anyone interested Texas History and American Mythos(and its dismantling)

It drags somewhat in the middle, but is interesting throughout, well researched, and well written

Tried so hard to like it, the writing is great and it’s a genuinely intriguing story but something failed to grab me. I’ll come back to it someday.

So good. Glad I started the year with this. An enlightening look into shadowed US history and terrible tragedy, with the thrill of a great mystery novel.

I read this again after listening to the audiobook. I think it might just be my favorite. It’s an unbelievably beautiful story, and so unique. I’m grateful I got to read it and I don’t have a single complaint. Such incredible prose, on gender and sexuality in particular.
