perfect soft fantasy book. the customs around death and energy in this universe were so breathtaking and malinda lo’s prose is incredible. makes you feel as through you’re drifting along the story. god i just can’t get over the world building i’m obsessed. i’m so sad the main couple don’t end up together but it feels bittersweet so i’m okay with it. i wish there were 5 million more books in this series.

so heavy handed and all the characters were annoying. not even the lesbians could make me care ab this book. only getting 2 stars cause i didn’t dnf it, it was quick, and the premise could’ve been interesting if the characters weren’t all stupid and annoying as fuck.

perfect fluff and beach read. read through super quick and was so fun to read. keeps shocking me when there are random references to isnotreal in the books ive been reading but whatever i guess. this book isn’t trying to take itself too seriously which is the correct approach and it’s great for what it is.

mostly was just a massive nerd jerk off to the 80s but ngl i was starting to really dig it by the end. never really felt tense but was an enjoyable, quick read. but yeah very heavy on world building but only for that very specific scene and then not brought up again. saw this somewhere else but i agree, it was really just a whole book of “wouldn't this be sooo cool?” “man i really wanna show off how much i like the 80s and video games” “what if all the cool characters were loser antisocial nerds, hehe” again, i did start enjoying it toward the end, but mostly, i was excited to be done lol.
