This is not the official manhua, which can be found as a hardcover, nor does it follow the timeline of the donghua. Honestly, I can't tell where exactly it falls on the timeline, though it's sometime in or after season 1, I believe.

It follows a case set within the Chinese opera, from what I understood from online translations. It seems to briefly reference events from season 1 of the donghua.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 1%.
A friend recommended it to me saying it wasn't actually horror. That could be true for maybe future arcs, since I know beginnings tend to be worse than the rest of the story for impact's sake, but boy can I not get past the first arc, or even the 4th chapter itself.

They're insane. And the best thing is? They're insane for each other. Whatever crimes one does, I'm sure the other would forgive them. They're mentally unstable, but it's understandable. There's one sane and good prominent character and it's the maid and I feel sorry for her. I'm also worried our two main characters will not meet with a happy ending, but I hope that's not true.

I usually don't like possessive, yandere love interests, but I'm perfectly fine with Étienne because Sioanna feels the exact same way about him. It's reciprocal, not a one-sided power imbalance where he's lying to her about his true character.
