i just found myself falling asleep for chunks of the book and not…missing anything. i found it, i guess, tedious, but more like i find a YA novel tedious. i was expecting more political intrigue for the length but instead you just sort of keep getting a very simply story from the same two perspectives that aren’t that different.

this book was an Entire Experience for me as i am currently undergoing trauma therapy. my trauma is not in the SA realm so the content was not triggering for me personally and it was deeply soothing to read trauma informed language in a fantasy book. i imagine this could be quite difficult if SA is where your trauma lies so YMMV here.
i think perhaps the writing was clunky and maybe overall not entirely my favorite subgenre of high fantasy. i also kind of don’t think that bothered me that much, and i enjoyed it deeply regardless.

i guess i’ve reached the age where this reread has me just like…this poor baby is just a CHILD and wanting to cry. so. i guess high fantasy will be interesting from now on? also why do we put this burden on our fantasy youth?? 🤨

very bland, very white, very anachronism (which is fine i suppose, if ur not my kind of autistic), very written by someone who has Researched Gay Sex
