It's been such a long time since a book has genuinely made me laugh out loud in public, but these manage it. 

The strength of these books really is in the characterisations. There's so many great characters, each uniquely quirky and absurd. 

So much fun to read. I love the fantastical elements and the nonchalant acceptance of all oddities. The Jane Eyre references really did nothing for me and it seemed a bit of an odd focus, but I generally enjoy the literary tangents. 

What a great set of characters and a captivating setting! 

Not as good a the first, a bit more chaotic in its plot and every problem that arose solved within pages. Still a nice set of characters to spend time with. 

Not what I was expecting. I had expected a difficult read (like the 1st 15 lives of Harry August) but it really had a rhythm and a flow. It was strangely hypnotic, especially considering I don't generally go in for books set during war times. Initially I felt the writing style left me too far removed from the characters to really get to know them, but by the end I realised I felt I'd known them forever. Incredibly well written. I may have liked more clarity or resolution in the ending but I suppose it makes sense for it to and as it did.
