You mean to tell me I could've picked this up years ago but y'all said Bryce and Hunt were boring and didn't have personalities and my dumbass trusted you, so I have been ignoring my new favourite duo for YEARS??? because you lot have no taste??? This is absolutely the last time I trust the internet.

I haven't seen a single positive review for this book so I went in with my hazmat suit expecting the worst of the worst, but I think there was a mix up and I got a different copy than everyone else. This one was definitely slower than the other books in the series and dragged a bit in the beginning because I honestly wasn't attached to any of the characters (yet) but then Irene "I don't have a temper" Towers walked in everything changed because simply put, I would die for that woman.

I do wonder if I would have enjoyed this as much if I didn't do the tandem read with Empire of Storms, but I guess we'll never know because honestly when I inevitably reread the series I'll probably do the tandem read again because I'm a sucker for chronology.

I honestly have no words right now. This was endless action, I wrote so so many notes and that ending had me in absolute tears (how dare you SJM???). Kingdom of Ash is almost 1000 pages but I can tell you right now, that's nothing because I'm going to devour it!

"And at long last, Aelin Ashryver Galathynius was home."

Oh my God. I felt a bit lukewarm about the last book but I definitely can't say the same for this one! As with all SJM books, once I get to the last few hundred pages I just can't put the book down, but this book held my attention the entire time which is astonishing considering its behemoth size. Bring on the tandem read!

Also, just a side note because I'm genuinely a bit confused... am I supposed to be shipping Aelin and Rowan??? Aren't they literal blood-related cousins?

I was honestly so perplexed for the first half of this book because I know everyone loves this book but I was so bored but then in true SJM fashion we got to the last 200 pages and I couldn't put the book down and the boredom completely went away!

Why oh why did I put this off for so long??! I'm so glad I can finally say I've finished this series, I really did enjoy my time with Audrey Rose and Thomas! I could have done without all of the unnecessary relationship turmoil in the first half of the book, but overall I had a pretty darn good time and clearly I do love this series. I adored the vibes and general atmosphere of this book, it gave me huge The Diviners feels which I loved!

2. Capturing the Devil ⭐⭐⭐

TW: Cheating, death of a loved one (parent), death, surgery
- The first 4 chapters of Stalking Jack The Ripper, from Thomas' pov

It's pretty hard to rate this because it's just a short novella, but I definitely had a lot of fun reading this and really seeing how Thomas thinks and processes situations. I think it's safe to say that I put off reading this for so long was because I generally think stories re-written from another perspective are dumb cash grabs BUT, I was genuinely surprised by how much I loved this. I don't think I would be too mad if, down the line, Kerri Maniscalco decided to re-tell these stories in Thomas' pov, or even just write a few more stories from his perspective because this was a lot of fun and I honestly found it really fun and rewarding being able to learn more about him this way.
I don't think this is by any means necessary or compulsory if you want to read the series, but it was for sure entertaining and an interesting read. If you're a Thomas Cresswell fan, or a fan of the series, in general, and you have the chance to pick this up, you should definitely give it a go, especially since it's such a short read.
