The author's personal story interwoven with history and interviews with the people on the different sites brings together a compelling story of the history of slavery in America and how it has left its marks on the country

loved the relationship and banter between the main couple. the writing was also quite good, but it was very repetitive. the author needs to trust the readers more to remember previous information. I also think I'm getting too old for young adult novels. the magic system already reminded me of star wars (because sw was inspired by asian culture ik) and then the whole falling to dark side thing happened with Zen, and then he literally quoted Anakin 😭 . that isn't a bad thing tho, I love star wars

Overall, I did enjoy my time with this book. It reminded me of Doctor Who (in a good way, I love that show) and the characters were very lovable. I enjoyed the prophecy and reincarnation aspects of the story a lot and the writing was very nice. the ending was also moving.
however, the adventure did feel a tad repetitive andidk if Obi is just trying to be comforting or whatever but him saying the Emperor wouldn't kill Xavier because he was a Hero felt like a big plot hole when he did, in fact, just try to kill all of them. so, either the character is being delulu or it's a plot hole. either way, it annoyed me

the timeline was confusingly written so the rating is for that, not the story that was horrific and true. hard to believe people like Shelly actually exist.
