collection as a whole - 4 stars

i surprisingly loved the second story the most. we love religious trauma!

for the titular story, i have some mixed feelings. its extremely disturbing and i absolutely love stories about obsession. it was watching a descent into madness  and it made my stomach curl. however, the pacing in this story is super weirdly done and the ‘descent’ into madness is less gradual and more like stepping off of a cliff. it needed 50 more pages of relationship development and then it might have been 5 stars.

there are a few plotholes that don’t get resolved but i absolutely loved this!! ive seen some criticism on the pacing but i had no trouble with it at all and never found myself bored. read it in two sittings and absolutely flew through the last 50ish pages. and maybe im just an idiot but the plot twist had me Gagged

if there was one book i could give everyone in the world to read, it would be this one. madison is truly my hero and has been for so long and hearing her struggles made me feel so much less alone. im so proud of the progress shes made and i think her message of simple kindness is so powerful
