Master Class by Christina Dalcher

I found the premise of this book to be such an interesting start to a story. Being based in the real, tragic history of eugenics worldwide and especially in the United States. This is based on Q values that are tests given based on multiple factors that make us who we are. Some of these are academic, some are socioeconomic, some are family and genetics and then others are lifestyle. The idea is that children and families are divided into different classifications based on their individual and family Q values, leading to better options for job and schools and even what line you can choose at the checkout of a store.
The Department of Education has a long term plan to best serve those scoring the highest. This brings up fascinating questions, many revisiting dark periods in history.
This book had me interested and turning the pages to its convincing conclusion. I didn’t enjoy this book, in that the topics are disturbing and plausible as a repeat of history, which is terrifying to imagine. Because of this discomfort, I appreciated the work and writing that went into this story.
