I usually feel cringey rating memoirs, but want to for this one. Rabia has an amazing talent for sharing her story and showing rather than telling her experiences (incredibly hard to do in a memoir!). Her writing is brave, kind, honest, and intuitive - I love the way she made me FEEL her experiences and look at myself and others differently. She shared her Pakistani and Muslim culture, immigration experience, and her self-discovery in a way that was healthily boundaried (does that make sense?)...I was able to empathize, understand, and feel because of a shared human experience, while knowing I’ll never fully be able to either. It’s hard to put it into words, but finishing this book left me with the vibes of having a deep discussion with a best friend and then relaxing over a glass of wine (or cup of chai!) feeling like something has shifted in the soul (in good way), but that is hard to identify specifically.
