It took me a while to rate this book. Ultimately I am rating this 2 stars. The plot was really compelling and it has the makings of a great dark romance, but I just cannot excuse the lack of clear consent between the main characters. It made me extremely uncomfortable and at the end of the day yes it is a fictional tale and yes Adeline was supposed to eventually be into it and be an enthusiastic consenting partner later, but it just really did not sit right with me for several days after finishing. I wanted to read book 2, because I did want to know what happens but after reading several reviews and the content warnings I decided against it
