I Am the Dark That Answers When You Call by Jamison Shea
4.0
If you enjoyed the movie Black Swan, then you’ll enjoy this! It has a much darker look and twists to it. And you will see some of the tough things someone goes through with being a ballerina without the perfect ideal life growing up and currently as well.
Lauren is an up and coming ballerina. She goes to a very tough Parisian ballet school. And just like in Black Swan, these girls are very competitive. She tends to have a tougher break than most all because she’s not white like most of the girls, nor did she grow up in the wealthy lifestyle that they did. The judges seem to lean more towards the privileged girls.
Lauren is her toughest critic. She is really doing this alone. She doesn’t have the finances that the other girls have, and her family couldn’t care less about what she’s doing. On top of the race issue, she has to work harder than the other girls. And she does. She’s a perfectionist. And she wants to be seen. She finally gets her dream role, but she’s still so hard on herself and even seems like she doesn’t believe she deserves it.
Then she meets the couple, Josephine and Ciro. They seem to have a great and successful life. They have it all. So this draws her to them. People talk about how they got there. Suggesting they do rituals and magic and drink blood and do spells. Because, no one like them should be successful in their eyes. This causes them to think the same for Lauren, since she isn’t white nor rich and doesn’t have family supporting her career.
The twist though is that most of the rumors about the couple seem to be right as Lauren gets to know them better. And the story really gets crazy then! I highly suggest this series! I read this book when I won a copy of the second book. So I had to get the kindle copy of this one to read first. Now I’m hooked!
