Oedipus the King by Sophocles
4.0
“And if When born to misery, as born I was, I met my sire, not knowing whom I met or what I did, and slew him, how canst thou With justice blame the all-unconscious hand?”
This is fucking insane. Like crazy insane. The only issue was I genuinely didn’t understand anything but the fact Oedipus killed his father, married his mother, HAD CHILDREN WITH HIS MOTHER, and then stabbed his eyes out. Which I mean…if I had done those things without knowing so I would have to stabbed my eyes out if not pulling a little Jocasta stunt.
Then I fucking looked up a little thing to understand it better and tell me why I wasn’t aware this is literally the last part of Oedipus’ tale?? WHY WOULD THE FUCKING AP LIT TEACHER HAVE ME START WITH THIS ONE? ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT. But anyway once I understood the sphinx part everything clicked.
But this play is literally so most crazy insane thing I ever read and so yeah. Thanks Mr.Walker for putting me on this very silly little play.
UPDATE:
It’s been five hours and I cannot stop thinking about this.
UPDATE:
It’s even more wild reading it for a second time in a translation you understand. But genuinely I wanted you to slam my head against a wall. Because everyone was telling him and Oedipus is just like. Blah blah blah I can’t hear you.
