Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready

5.0

My god, I wasn't expecting too much from this book. I read the first couple of pages in a preview before I reserved this from the library and it seemed decent but I didn't expect much.

Boy was I wrong.

Shade is an amazingly powerful book about a girl named Aura who loses her boyfriend Logan to drugs in an age where nearly everyone 16 and younger can see ghosts. Aura, her friends and his family have to cope with his death and it's incredibly emotional. Alongside this Aura meets Scottish exchange student Zachary, who when he uses English terms doesn't sound like a bad American trying to be English or Scottish. He has to help her with a school project that's tied with what they can so and what they start to learn well...it's all very interesting.

Nothing in this book feels forced or unrealistic and I love it.

Will definitely recommend.
