Rise of the Ranger by Philip C. Quaintrell
5.0
I have no regrets starting (and buying) this 9 book series judging from this one
This book is full to the brim with all those familiar fantastical elements that I know and love such as mythical creatures (including dragons), magic, an expansive world, interesting environments and politics and I had so much fun with it. I see no reason why anyone who loves your classic fantasy adventure would fail to find enjoyment here
You follow quite a few POV's and there's quite the cast of characters from the get go and it can feel a little intimidating but each character is introduced in a way that I actually found it easy to keep up with who was who and their current scenarios
All the characters are quite distinct from one another and just like the elements, you have all your key roles filled. From elves to royalty to your main protagonist who has forgotten memories and each one has their own place in this world with some crossing paths along the way so it was interesting to find out where and how each one ended up
The story is well paced with a variety of situations going on that kept me invested throughout. It has a decent conclusion which sets up the second book well and if the rest of the series continues to this standard then this is going to be a great saga
