The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Just finished listening to this one on audiobook, after a recommendation from Jordan. First off, the narration of this was absolutely stellar. I would 100% listen to anything Bahni Turpin narrates. Second, this book gave me a look into a perspective I can't imagine, and am brokenhearted by. Star's journey is one of courage, learning how to be one whole integrated person, and learning to speak out. While these messages resonated with me on a personal level, I will never experience events like what Star went through in this book, simply based on the happenstance of me being born white. As I wrote about with Samra Habib's "We Have Always Been Here," I am really enjoying getting the opportunity to delve into other experiences and perspectives through books. Get used to the sap, y'all. It's here to stay.
