Wild Eyes by Elsie Silver
2.0
"Wild Eyes" offers a small-town romance between a rugged horse trainer and a country music star seeking solace in a charming mountain town. While the synopsis promises an addictive love story and heartwarming family dynamics, the execution left much to be desired for me.
The instant love, lust, and quick obsession between Weston and Skylar felt over the top, making it hard to connect with their relationship. (Let’s be honest—minus the sexual attraction, was there even a real relationship to begin with?) It lacked the depth and natural progression that typically draws me into romance stories. The kids, who are central to the family dynamic, didn’t feel authentic. Their dialogue and actions were far too mature for their ages (6-8 years old), making their interactions with the wannabe Swift completely unrealistic—especially when they were dishing out advice like seasoned adults. Be fucking forreal.
Ultimately, "Wild Eyes" didn’t live up to the hype I’d seen on BookTok—per usual. If you’re drawn to the premise of a celebrity-meets-small-town romance, it might still be worth a try, but don’t expect it to reinvent the genre. Do with what you will with that information.
